Weighted Goal -Journal 1 EEND-713Y

For most of my life, I have been dealing with rollercoaster weight issues - up, down, and around.
It started during my teenage years. I was always an active, athletic kid.
However, I was different from other girls.  The ideal was slender and tall. I was short and “muscular.”
In my mind, I wanted to become like my peers. So peer pressure kicked in, and I started doing
crazy crash diets: the cabbage soup diet, the lettuce and chicken tuna diet, the pineapple diet, “cleanses,”
Atkins, Keto, South Beach, and Paleo. You name it, I tried it! Things got worse once I left home for
college and work.  I stopped exercising but didn’t stop eating, and my weight went up.
I began exercising (Crossfit) regularly again two years ago, after the birth of my son.
Going to the gym helped some with my weight, but the results have been slow and inconsistent
due to my unhealthy eating habits.  Losing weight is important to me.
I would feel better about my appearance and about myself.  My weight is an emotional issue for me,
one that I’ve dealt with for half my life. I know from Crossfit and my pregnancy that I have physical
discipline and a high tolerance for pain. I am confident I can do what it takes to lose weight.
I have accomplished my professional goals by using the “SMART” approach to setting goals,
tracking results, and modifying behavior. I will use the Genius hour project to research how
I need to change my diet and behavior.I will track my behavior to see if I’m forming good habits,
and report on my successes and failures.  I will then research how I modify my behavior as necessary.

  1. Tulia,
I admire your goal(s) and I hope to be more in tune with my capabilities (as you are) during my own Genius Hour! One quick suggestion... try an reformat your journal entry to fit the width of the screen. As I read your Journal 1 entry, I needed to scroll left to right repeatedly to be able to read all of your post. I'm sure it's in your formatting options because none of your other entries have this "problem." Thanks for sharing!

  3. My hat is off to you and I hope setting a SMART goal helps you hit your goal. I too was that athletic kid/young adult who was never slim. Despite skating and playing volleyball I stayed "big boned"- as my grandmother called it. As I have gotten older, I still see myself as that 29 year-old that could do anything, but having had my 21st, 29th birthday recently, I realize I cannot. So I look forward living vicariously through your blog.

On a totally different note- I had the same issue as Kumar. The formatting on your blog is off. I sometimes have this issue on mine too (especially if I type in docs and copy and paste into Blogger). The only thing, I have found to fix this issue is to type the post in Blogger to get the formatting correct.

Fingers crossed that you get the results you want!

  4. Tulia- Thanks for opening up and sharing. Sounds like you have all of the tools in place to reach your goal. We are usually much harder on ourselves than we should be. I think the key take-away is finding that "healthy" place that you can know that you are living a good balance healthy life and that you are happy with yourself. I think most of us struggle with this same idea. Good luck to you on your journey, I hope you find what you are looking for.
