Badges are great tools that can be used as motivating devices for students. Teachers can award badges to students for accomplishments and academic mastery. Teachers can create and customized classroom badges that fit their a subject, curriculum, and benchmark goals. Using Badges in the classroom can build autonomy in students. Students can learn at their own pace academic content. In addition, badges help students setting and meeting goals. Badges give students autonomy about how and when they will meet their own goals. Students have more ownership about their academic work. Another benefit of using badges in the classroom, it is that Students are able to attempt several times a skill until they master it or before taking a summative assessment. Another benefit of using Badges for educational purposes is that motivates students. It permits students to visually look at their own progress. Lastly, badges can be a great feedback tool students can work on getting better at a skill while we, teachers can coach them on their learning path> Creating badges is very easy teachers can use online services that allow you to personalize according to a subject, skill, and proficiency. For my Assessment class, I used Google drawing. This platform was very easy to use. It motivated me to create and use badges as a way to motivate students to progress in their reading benchmarks.

Introduction

My name is Tulia Golden, I teach first-grade Dual Language Immersion (DL) Spanish in Naperville District 203. I started teaching first grade DL in 2010. I am excited to learn more about technology. I want to become😃 more comfortable using it in my lessons and with my students.  My school district Technology Initiative is to become 2:1 iPods for grades K-1 and 1:1 Chrome books for grade 2 to 12th. I look forward embarking in this exciting technological journey!
