My thoughts about Foundations of Education Technology

Throughout the course, Foundations of Education Technology,  I have learned different applications of technology in the classroom and the many responsibilities that entail being a digital citizen.
As 21st-century educators, our responsibility is to know the technologies we are using and to educate students on their proper use.  Educators need to have open channels of communication with parents and students to prevent cyber bullying.

The class Foundation of Education Technology provided me with insightful conversations off campus and in person. One of our discussions that stuck with me was the discussion about the 4 C's of technology: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. It was interesting to hear my peers talk about their 5th C and the relationship to their practice. This discussion helped me understand that technology is more than an add on. On the contrary, technology today is a tool to maximize content instruction and student’s learning experiences.

This class provided me with multiple opportunities to apply what I’ve learned and collaborate with my peers.  I was able to create my own google classroom, a lesson on the Amazon River that I will be teaching this spring. I was able to learn about Professional Learning Networks and participate in different technology topics.

My plan is to develop a better understanding of digital portfolios for first-grade students. Also, I would like to introduce digital portfolios in my class. So students can share their learning at school and with their families. Another objective, for this year, is to use PLN to learn from others colleagues and share my technology progress with them.

Some examples of what I've  created:

  1. I love that you say, "technology is more than an add on. On the contrary, technology today is a tool to maximize content instruction and student’s learning experiences." So often I feel that teachers have felt it is an add on because they do not always know how to use it in order to maximize the instruction and student's learning experiences.
I also plan to introduce student portfolios in my classroom this year. I know I will be using Seesaw which is a digital portfolio platform...but wonder if I should look into something else as well. What do you plan to use with your first graders?

  2. You have so many creative ideas that I can't wait to see you use in the classroom. The rain forest project looks so collaborative and maybe we can have our classrooms work together! I agree that the 4C's were very helpful when thinking about technology in the classroom and allows me to reflect as a teacher.

Introduction

My name is Tulia Golden, I teach first-grade Dual Language Immersion (DL) Spanish in Naperville District 203. I started teaching first grade DL in 2010. I am excited to learn more about technology. I want to become😃 more comfortable using it in my lessons and with my students.  My school district Technology Initiative is to become 2:1 iPods for grades K-1 and 1:1 Chrome books for grade 2 to 12th. I look forward embarking in this exciting technological journey!
